Richaun's Early Life and College Basketball
Richaun Holmes grew up in a family where both his parents were church leaders. When he was in high school, he grew a lot! He started as a 6-foot-2 guard and became a 6-foot-9 forward. Even with this growth, he didn't get many offers from big college basketball teams right away. He decided to play for Moraine Valley Community College in Illinois first.
Playing at Moraine Valley Community College
In his one year at Moraine Valley, Richaun was amazing. He scored about 19 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots per game. Rebounds are when you get the ball after a missed shot, and blocks are when you stop an opponent's shot. His excellent performance earned him an All-American honor for junior colleges. After this, he moved to Bowling Green University.
Richaun's Time at Bowling Green University
At Bowling Green, Richaun continued to improve. In his second year, he averaged 6.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks. By his third year, he doubled his scoring and got 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.
His senior year was his best. He worked hard on his game, even practicing his three-point shot by taking 1,000 shots a day! This hard work paid off. He averaged 14.7 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks. He also shot very well, making 56.3% of his field goals and 41.9% of his three-pointers. With Richaun's help, Bowling Green's team improved a lot, winning 21 games compared to just 12 the year before.
