A Fun Name Change for Richland
Did you know Richland once had a different name for a short time? On April 26, 2004, the leaders of Buena Vista Township decided to temporarily rename Richland. For the first half of May 2004, Richland became Mojito, New Jersey!
Why Mojito, New Jersey?
This fun name change was inspired by the mojito, a popular drink. A company offered the township $5,000 for local recreation projects. In return, they wanted to put up a sign on U.S. Route 40 to celebrate the new name.
Richland was chosen for this special event because it's home to Dalponte Farms. This family-run farm is a big supplier of mint on the East Coast. Mint is a very important ingredient in a mojito!
