The Richmond Community Church is an old and important church building in Richmond, New Hampshire, USA. It's located on Fitzwilliam Road. This church was built a long time ago, in 1838. It's special because it's one of the first churches in the area built in the Greek Revival style using bricks. In 1983, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's a very important historical site. Today, a Methodist group uses the church.

What the Church Looks Like

The Richmond Community Church is in the middle of Richmond village. It's on the south side of Fitzwilliam Road. This building is made of brick and has one main floor. It has a pointed roof, called a gabled roof. The front of the church faces north towards the road.

Architectural Details

The front of the church has two main sections, called bays. Each section has flat, column-like decorations made of brick. These are called pilasters. You can also see these pilasters on the corners of the building. Each section on the front has a door. These doors have small windows on the sides. Above the doors are windows for the upper level, called the gallery. A tall, square wooden tower sits above the front of the church.

History of the Church

The church was built in 1838. It was first built by a group called the Unitarians. Before the church was even finished, they sold half of it to another group. This second group was the First Baptist Society.

Early Design and Influence

This church is one of the earliest brick churches built in New Hampshire. Many brick churches were built around that time in the Connecticut River valley area. The design of the Richmond Community Church was likely influenced by the work of Ammi Burnham Young. He was an architect from Lebanon, New Hampshire. This church is different from older churches built in the Federal style. It stands out because of the pilasters on its corners and on the front.
