History of Rienzi
Rienzi got its name from a famous Italian politician from the Middle Ages named Cola di Rienzo. The town was first settled a long time ago, in 1830. Its original location was about one mile west of where it is today, close to a place called the Nesly Williams Plantation.
Geography of Rienzi
Rienzi is located in the southern part of Alcorn County. The town covers an area of about 2.57 square kilometers (or 1 square mile), and all of it is land. There's no water area within the town limits.
The main roads in Rienzi are Mississippi Highway 356, which is also known as Main Street and Front Street. This highway runs through the town. Rienzi is just east of where Highway 356 meets U.S. Route 45.
