Rising Storm is an exciting fantasy novel. It is the fourth book in the popular Warriors series. The books are written by a team of authors using the pen name Erin Hunter. Specifically, Rising Storm was written by Kate Cary.

The Warriors series tells the adventures of four groups, called Clans, of wild cats. These cats are anthropomorphic, meaning they act and think like humans. The main character of Rising Storm is Fireheart. He is the newest deputy of ThunderClan.

Fireheart faces many challenges in this book. He struggles to do his duties as deputy. He also knows that the dangerous former deputy, Tigerclaw, is still out there. Tigerclaw wants revenge on Fireheart and his Clan.

This book was first released in the United States on January 6, 2004. It came out as a hardcover book. Later, it was also released as a paperback and an e-book. Readers in the United Kingdom and Canada could get the paperback version. Rising Storm has been translated into many languages, including Chinese, German, and French.

Reviews for the book were mixed. Many readers liked the suspense and the exciting ending. However, some felt there were too many characters. Others wished for more humor and deeper feelings in the story.

Story Overview

Where the Story Happens

Rising Storm takes place in a made-up forest. This forest is home to four different groups of wild cats, known as Clans. These Clans are ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, and ShadowClan. Each Clan lives in a part of the forest that suits their special skills.

The forest in the book was inspired by real places. These include the New Forest in Southern England. Other places like Loch Lomond, the Scottish Highlands, and the Forest of Dean also helped create the fictional world.

What Happens in the Story

Fireheart has just become ThunderClan's new deputy. But he is still worried about Tigerclaw, the old deputy. Tigerclaw betrayed the Clan and was banished. Fireheart wonders if ThunderClan is ready if Tigerclaw attacks. Many cats are still recovering from Tigerclaw's betrayal.

Bluestar, the leader of ThunderClan, starts to lose trust in her Clan. She only trusts her oldest warriors and those not born in the Clan. This is because of Tigerclaw's betrayal.

Bluestar and Fireheart try to visit StarClan. StarClan are the warrior ancestors of the Clans. They go to a special place called the Moonstone, inside an old mine. On their way, some WindClan warriors stop them. Bluestar then fears that StarClan sent WindClan to stop them. This makes her even more paranoid.

Fireheart also has trouble with his nephew and apprentice, Cloudpaw. Cloudpaw does not listen to Fireheart's orders. He goes near Twolegs (humans) and gets captured by them. Fireheart and his friend Sandstorm go on a dangerous journey to rescue Cloudpaw. They find him and bring him back. Cloudpaw convinces the Clan that he was taken against his will. He is then allowed back into ThunderClan.

Meanwhile, Fireheart misses his best friend, Graystripe. Graystripe left ThunderClan to live in RiverClan. He went there with his kits (kittens) to be with their mother's Clan.

As summer goes on, the forest gets hotter and hotter. Eventually, a huge wildfire sweeps through the forest. The fire destroys ThunderClan's camp. It also takes the lives of two old cats, Patchpelt and Halftail. Yellowfang, ThunderClan's wise medicine cat, also dies in the fire.

At the end of the book, all the Clans gather. They learn that Nightstar and Cinderfur, the leader and deputy of ShadowClan, have died from a sickness. It is then revealed that Tigerclaw, now called Tigerstar, is the new leader of ShadowClan. This sets up a big challenge for Fireheart and ThunderClan.
