About Rita Guerra
Rita Guerra grew up in Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. She has often tried to represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest. Her first try was in 1992 with the song "Meu amor inventado em mim." She came in second place in that competition.
In 2003, Rita Guerra sang for Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest. This big music event took place in Riga, Latvia. She finished 22nd in the contest. After her performance, she married Paulo Martins. He wrote the words and music for her Eurovision song. Paulo Martins also helped make her album called Rita, which came out in 2005.
Her Music Career
Since 1989, Rita Guerra has performed regularly at the Casino do Estoril. She first sang on that stage with Salvatore Adamo, a famous Belgian singer.
Her first album was called Pormenores sem a mínima importância (which means "Details without the minimum importance"). On this album, she worked with Rui Veloso, a well-known rock singer, and the group Taxi. Her second album, Independence Day, was released in 1995. All the songs on this CD were sung in English.
Rita Guerra also explored different music styles. For her album Da Gama, she worked with maestro Pedro Osório and Paulo de Carvalho. Paulo de Carvalho was another Portuguese singer who represented Portugal in Eurovision in 1974. In 2000, Rita teamed up with Beto, who was one of her backing singers at Eurovision. They released an album together called Desencontros.
