The Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia is a fancy hotel and a place where people live, located in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It's actually made up of three buildings that are connected. These buildings are the Girard Trust Bank, the Girard Trust Building, and The Residences at the Ritz-Carlton.

The Old Bank Building

The Girard Trust Bank building was once the main office for the Girard Bank, which started way back in 1811. This building has a special design called Beaux Arts. It was inspired by the famous Pantheon in Rome.

The building's design was a team effort. Architects Furness, Evans & Company from Philadelphia and McKim, Mead & White from New York worked together. Construction began in 1905 and finished in 1907.

From the outside, the dome on top looks like half a ball. But inside, it's shaped like an octagon (an eight-sided figure). The main banking room was very tall, about four stories high. Today, this grand room is used as the hotel's restaurant and a big ballroom for events.

The Skyscraper Hotel

The Girard Trust Building is a tall, 30-story skyscraper that stands 394 feet (120 meters) high. It faces City Hall. This building was also designed by McKim, Mead & White. It was built between 1930 and 1931 as an office building.

Later, it was known as Two Mellon Plaza. In 2000, this office building was changed into a 330-room Ritz-Carlton hotel. James Garrison and Dr. George C. Skarmeas were in charge of turning the building into a hotel.

This skyscraper stands where another building, the West End Trust Building, used to be. That older building was built in 1898 and torn down in 1928.

Ritz-Carlton Homes

The third part of the complex is The Residences at the Ritz Carlton. These are homes where people live. This building was finished in 2009. It stands on the spot where another building, One Meridian Plaza, used to be.
