The River Lee is a river located in Ireland. It starts in the Shehy Mountains in County Cork. The river then flows east through Cork City. In the city, it splits into two parts for a short distance. This split creates an island where the city centre of Cork is built. After passing through Cork City, the river flows into Cork Harbour. This harbour is one of the biggest natural harbours in the world. Finally, the River Lee empties into the Celtic Sea.

River Lee's Journey and Features
The River Lee's journey begins high in the mountains. Its total length is about 90 kilometers (56 miles). The area of land that drains into the River Lee is 1,253 square kilometers. On average, the river carries about 40.4 cubic meters of water every second.
Hydroelectric Power on the Lee
A special project was built on the river to create hydro-electric power. This project is located upstream from Cork City. Because of this, the river now has two large reservoirs: Carrigadrohid and Inniscarra. These reservoirs help control the river's flow and generate electricity.
Bridges and Fishing
Many bridges cross the River Lee. There are 42 bridges in total along its path. A large number of these, 29, are found within Cork City itself. There is also one tunnel that goes under the river. The River Lee is also a popular spot for fishing. About 8 kilometers (5 miles) of the river are known for good salmon fishing.
