River Lune, Durham facts for kids
The River Lune is a river found in County Durham, England. It is not very long, but it plays an important role in the local area.
Where Does the River Lune Start?
The River Lune begins its journey near a place called Lune Head Farm. It forms when two smaller streams, Lune Head Beck and Cleve Beck, meet. Lune Head Beck itself starts from two even smaller streams, Connypot Beck and Goal Sike, which flow from Cumbria.
The River's Journey
From its start, the River Lune flows towards the east through an area known as Lunedale. Along its way, it reaches Selset Reservoir. After passing this reservoir, the river changes direction and flows northeast. It then feeds into another important body of water, Grassholme Reservoir. The River Lune continues its path until it finally joins a much larger river, the River Tees, near the village of Mickleton.
