The River Sett is a cool river that flows through a beautiful area called the High Peak in Derbyshire, England. It starts high up near Edale Cross on a big hill called Kinder Scout. From there, it winds its way through the villages of Hayfield and Birch Vale. Finally, it joins the River Goyt in a town called New Mills. The River Goyt is an important river that eventually flows into the famous River Mersey.

Did you know? In the past, the River Sett was actually known as the River Kinder. Today, the River Kinder is a smaller river that flows into the Sett near Bowden Bridge, just above Hayfield.

Exploring the River Sett Valley

The River Sett valley is a great place for outdoor adventures! A special path called the Sett Valley Trail follows where an old railway line used to be. This trail is about 2.5 miles long and is perfect for walking, cycling, or just enjoying nature between Hayfield and New Mills. It's a fun way to see the river and the surrounding countryside.

River Health and Care

Keeping rivers clean and healthy is super important for all the plants and animals that live there. The River Sett's health is regularly checked by the Environment Agency. They make sure the water quality is good for wildlife and people. It's a team effort to keep our rivers sparkling!
