The Rivière au Doré Ouest (which means Doré West River in English) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It's a smaller river that flows into the rivière au Doré. You can find it in the area called Le Domaine-du-Roy Regional County Municipality, which is part of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
The river valley is mostly reached by forest roads. These include the chemin de la shop, the chemin du lac Rond, and the rue des Peupliers, which is part of Route 167.
The main activity in the upper part of this valley is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. In the middle and lower parts, agriculture (farming) is more common.

Where the River Starts and Flows
The Rivière au Doré Ouest begins in a small lake in a forest near La Doré. This lake is about 1 kilometer long and sits at an altitude of 290 meters (about 951 feet).
The river's starting point is:
- 1.9 kilometers (about 1.2 miles) southeast of the Rivière aux Trembles.
- 10.0 kilometers (about 6.2 miles) southwest of the village of La Doré.
- 26.0 kilometers (about 16.2 miles) west of downtown Saint-Félicien.
- 11.8 kilometers (about 7.3 miles) southwest of where the river ends.
From its source, the Rivière au Doré Ouest flows for 16.9 kilometers (about 10.5 miles). It drops about 130 meters (about 427 feet) in elevation along its path. The river flows through both farming areas and the village area as it gets closer to its end.
The River's Journey
The river's journey can be broken down into several parts:
- It flows 4.6 kilometers (about 2.9 miles) southeast in a straight line. Here, it meets the water from three other lakes, including Lac Doré.
- Next, it travels 7.2 kilometers (about 4.5 miles) northeast. It makes a big loop to go around a mountain. Then it turns east, collecting water from several other lakes.
- For 4.3 kilometers (about 2.7 miles), it flows north through a small lake. This lake is 0.26 kilometers (about 0.16 miles) long and 181 meters (about 594 feet) high. The river then winds west and picks up a small stream. It also meets the water from two lakes, including Lac Jos-Gagnon.
- It flows 0.8 kilometers (about 0.5 miles) northeast, crossing the chemin du lac Rond. Then it crosses rue des Peupliers (Route 167), about 0.7 kilometers (about 0.4 miles) northwest of La Doré village.
- Finally, it flows 3.0 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) east. It makes a big curve north through farmland to go around the village of La Doré. It also collects water from two more streams before reaching its mouth.
Where the River Ends
The Rivière au Doré Ouest flows into the south bank of the rivière au Doré. This meeting point is located:
- 1.9 kilometers (about 1.2 miles) northeast of the center of La Doré village.
- 15.0 kilometers (about 9.3 miles) west of downtown Saint-Félicien.
- 24.2 kilometers (about 15.0 miles) west of where the Ashuapmushuan River ends.
- 36.9 kilometers (about 22.9 miles) northwest of downtown Roberval.
From the mouth of the Rivière au Doré Ouest, the water continues its long journey:
- It flows down the rivière au Doré for 4.4 kilometers (about 2.7 miles).
- Then it enters the rivière aux Saumons for 8.2 kilometers (about 5.1 miles).
- After that, it joins the Ashuapmushuan River and flows southeast for 18 kilometers (about 11.2 miles).
- The water then crosses Lac Saint-Jean for its entire length, about 41.1 kilometers (about 25.5 miles).
- Finally, it follows the Saguenay River (through the Petite Décharge) for 172.3 kilometers (about 107.1 miles) east to Tadoussac. There, it mixes with the estuary of Saint Lawrence, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean!
