The Rivière aux Orignaux (which means Moose River in English) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the St. Lawrence River from its south side. This river passes through places like Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard, Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets, and the Gentilly area of Bécancour. It is located in the Centre-du-Québec region.

Why is it Called Moose River?
The name "Rivière aux Orignaux" means "Moose River." This name was first seen on a map from 1858. It shows that many moose used to live in the Centre-du-Québec area. The river was also once known as "Chaud brook."
Where Does the River Flow?
The Rivière aux Orignaux starts in a farming area south of the village of Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard. It begins where two smaller streams meet: the Bras Chaud stream and the Bras de Cretons.
From its start, the river flows for about 31.2 kilometres (19.4 mi) (about 19 miles). It drops about 67 metres (220 ft) (220 feet) in height along its path.
Upper Part of the River
The first part of the river's journey is about 14.8 kilometres (9.2 mi) (9 miles) long.
- It flows north-east, then winds around.
- It passes east of Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard village.
- Along this section, it picks up water from the Bass Ruisseau du Sixième Rang.
- It then winds north-west, collecting water from the Ruisseau Zéphirin-Mailhot.
Lower Part of the River
The second part of the river is about 16.4 kilometres (10.2 mi) (10 miles) long.
- It flows south-west, winding past the village of Sainte-Cécile-de-Lévrard.
- It continues winding south-west, then turns west.
- Finally, it flows west for about 0.6 kilometres (0.37 mi) (0.4 miles) until it reaches its end.
Where the River Ends
The Rivière aux Orignaux empties into the St. Lawrence River Estuary. This is in the eastern part of the town of Bécancour, near the Gentilly area. Its mouth is about 4.6 kilometres (2.9 mi) (2.9 miles) north-east of Gentilly village. It's also very close to where the Rivière aux Glaises and the Rivière du Moulin meet the St. Lawrence.
