The Rivière aux Graines (which means Seed River in English) is a small river in Canada. It flows into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. You can find this river on Anticosti Island, which is part of the Quebec province. It's located in the Minganie Regional County Municipality.
This area has many small forest roads. These roads connect to the main road that runs along the southern coast of the island. The main activity here is logging (cutting down trees for wood).
Where the River Flows
The Graines River starts in a swampy area on the western side of Anticosti Island. This starting point is about 76 meters (249 feet) above sea level.
From its source, the river flows south. It runs between two other rivers: La Petite Rivière to the west and the Bec-Scie River to the east. The Graines River travels about 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles) downhill, dropping about 75 meters (246 feet) in height. Along its way, it collects water from two smaller streams and crosses another swampy area.
The Seed River ends on the south shore of Anticosti Island. It flows into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. This spot is about 1.9 kilometers (1.2 miles) west of Pointe aux Pimbinas. It is also about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) west of where the Bec-Scie River meets the sea. The river's mouth is about 19.5 kilometers (12.1 miles) east of the village of Port-Menier. When the tide is low, the river's current can flow out about 0.74 kilometers (0.46 miles) into the sandy area.
How the River Got Its Name
The name "Rivière aux Graines" first appeared in 1955. It was on a map used by a logging company called Consolidated Bathurst. The official name was confirmed on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is in charge of place names in Quebec.
