A Brief History
Roachville and White Mountain City were small communities. They were located east of the White Mountains, away from Owens Valley. In the fall of 1861, these towns were part of a strange event. It involved a California election.
The area around these towns was called the Warm Springs voting district. Not many people lived there. However, for the election, 521 extra voters were added to the list. These names came from a list of people who had just arrived in San Francisco by steamship. This made it seem like many more people lived in Roachville and White Mountain City than actually did.
