Rob Laakso (born in 1979, died in 2023) was an American musician. He was also a record producer and engineer. He was best known for working with indie rock musician Kurt Vile. Rob played many instruments in Kurt Vile's band, called The Violators. He also played in other bands, like Swirlies. Rob was born in Massachusetts and went to Emerson College.
Rob helped Kurt Vile with his music early on. He worked on albums like God Is Saying This to You... (2009) and Smoke Ring for My Halo (2011). In 2011, Rob became a full member of Kurt Vile's band, The Violators. He played a big part in many of their later albums. These include Wakin on a Pretty Daze (2013) and Bottle It In (2018).
Rob Laakso passed away on May 4, 2023. He was 44 years old. He had been battling a serious illness. He is survived by his wife, Mamie-Claire, and their two children.
