Robert Aaron Williams (born May 5, 1961 – died March 10, 2014) was an American professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 1982 NBA draft.
Williams was a 6-foot-2 Point guard from the University of Houston. He played for the Nuggets for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). When he joined the Nuggets as a rookie, he needed to get in better shape. His coach, Doug Moe, joked about him needing to improve his fitness.

College Basketball Star
Williams was a fantastic player at Milby High School in Houston. He continued to shine at the University of Houston. As a freshman, he scored about 16 points per game. This increased to 25 points per game in his second year.
Phi Slama Jama Team
In 1982, Williams helped his Houston Cougars team reach the NCAA Final Four. This team was famously known as Phi Slama Jama because of their exciting dunking style. They lost to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the National Semifinals.
Williams was named an All-American during his college years. He was also a top player in the Southwest Conference every year. Some of his famous teammates included Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
Professional Career
In his short NBA career, Williams played in 153 games. He scored a total of 1,319 points. After his time in the NBA, he played basketball professionally in other leagues. He played in the Continental Basketball Association, Italy, Australia, Spain, and the Philippines.
Playing in the Philippines
In 1986, Williams played for Tanduay Rhum in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). This league allowed teams to have two international players. Williams, along with Andre McKoy and local stars, led Tanduay to their first championship. He was known for his exciting play and good shooting.
Later Life and Legacy
In 1998, Rob Williams had a stroke. This health event affected his vision and movement on one side of his body.
On March 10, 2014, Rob Williams passed away at 52 years old. He died from heart failure.
Since 2005, Williams and his wife ran a care facility. This facility in Katy, Texas helped adults with mental challenges.
