Robert Edward Brown CBE (born December 25, 1947) is a Scottish politician. He is a member of the Scottish Liberal Democrats political party. Robert Brown served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Glasgow area from 1999 to 2011.

Robert Brown's Political Journey
Robert Brown studied at the University of Aberdeen. After university, he worked as a lawyer. From 1972 to 1974, he was a Depute Procurator Fiscal in Dumbarton. A Procurator Fiscal is like a public prosecutor in Scotland. They investigate crimes and decide if someone should be charged.
Early Political Roles
In the 1970s and 1980s, Robert Brown was a Glasgow City councillor. A councillor is a local politician who helps make decisions for a city or region. He also led the Scottish Liberal Democrat Policy Committee for many years. This committee helps decide what the party believes and what laws they want to create.
Serving in the Scottish Parliament
Robert Brown was first elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999. This was the very first election for the Scottish Parliament. He represented the Glasgow region.
In 2005, he became the Deputy Minister for Education and Young People. This role meant he helped lead the government's work on schools and youth programs in Scotland. He served in the Scottish Parliament until 2011.
Local Council Work
In May 2012, Robert Brown was elected as a councillor for the Rutherglen South area. This is part of the South Lanarkshire Council. He kept his seat in the 2017 elections. He was the only Liberal Democrat councillor out of 64 seats on the council.
Special Recognition
In 2014, Robert Brown was given a special award. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This award is given to people who have made a big positive difference in their work. He received it for his service in politics.
Robert Brown lives in Burnside, which is in the south of Greater Glasgow.
