Life and Family

Robert Auriol Hay-Drummond was the oldest son of Robert Hay Drummond. His father was a very important church leader. He was the Archbishop of York. Robert's mother was Henrietta Auriol.

In 1739, Robert's father, Robert Hay, added the name Drummond to his own. He did this because he was the heir to his great-grandfather, William Drummond, 1st Viscount Strathallan.

Becoming an Earl

Robert Hay-Drummond became the Earl of Kinnoull on December 27, 1787. This happened after his uncle, Thomas Hay, passed away.

His Important Role

From 1796 until his death in 1804, Lord Kinnoull served as the Lord Lyon King of Arms. This was a big responsibility. He was also sworn into the Privy Council of the United Kingdom. This council advises the King or Queen.

After he passed away, his son, Thomas, took over his role as Lord Lyon. Thomas also became the next Earl of Kinnoull.
