Robert Lantos, who has been awarded the Order of Canada (CM), was born on April 3, 1949. He is a film producer from Hungary and Canada. A film producer helps make movies happen. They find money, hire people, and oversee the whole process.

Life and Career of Robert Lantos

Robert Lantos was born in Budapest, Hungary. His parents were Ágnes (Bodor) and László Lantos. When he was young, his family moved to Montevideo, Uruguay. They left Hungary after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, a big event in history. In 1963, Robert moved to Canada. He is Jewish.

Early Education and Film Start

Robert Lantos studied literature at McGill University in Montreal. He earned two degrees there, a BA in 1970 and an MA in 1972. After university, he started a company called Vivafilm. This company brought movies from other countries to Canada. Later, he created another company, RSL Entertainment. This company made 15 films. Some of his early well-known movies include In Praise of Older Women and Joshua Then and Now.

Building Film Companies

Robert Lantos also helped start a big Canadian film and TV company. It was called Alliance Communications Corporation. He worked with partners like Victory Loewy and John Kemeny. Robert was the main leader of Alliance until 1998. He then sold his share in the company. Today, he makes movies through his own company, Serendipity Point Films.
