Robert Lui (born 23 February 1990) is an Australian professional rugby league player. He plays as a five-eighth (five-eighth) or halfback (halfback). Currently, he plays for the Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup.
Rob Lui has played for several big teams. These include the Wests Tigers and the North Queensland Cowboys in Australia's top league, the NRL. He also played for the Salford Red Devils and Leeds Rhinos in the Super League in England.

Rob Lui grew up in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. His family background is Torres Strait Islander.
He started playing junior rugby league with local teams like the Upper Ross Rams. Later, he played for the Centrals Tigers. His talent was noticed, and he received a scholarship to Keebra Park High. In 2007, he joined the Queensland Open Schoolboys team. He also got a scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport. After finishing high school, Lui joined the Wests Tigers' junior team in 2008.
Rob Lui's Rugby League Journey
Starting with Wests Tigers (2009-2011)
Rob Lui began 2009 playing for the Tigers' junior team. He made his first game in the NRL in Round 23. He played two more games that season. He also helped the Wests Tigers' junior team reach the Grand Final. At the end of 2009, he was named in the top junior team of the year.
In March 2010, Lui signed a new contract with the Wests Tigers. His coach, Tim Sheens, said he was a very important player. Lui started the season as a halfback. He played 17 games in 2010 and got better as the year went on.
In 2011, Lui played in 23 games and scored 5 tries. He became the team's halfback from Round 17. The Wests Tigers won nine games in a row with him. People said he worked very well with star player Benji Marshall.
Moving to North Queensland Cowboys (2012-2015)
In 2012, Rob Lui signed a two-year contract with his hometown team, the North Queensland Cowboys. He played his first game for them in Round 1. However, he faced a difficult period that led to him being suspended from playing rugby league for the rest of the 2012 season. He was able to start playing again in 2013.
Even though he was suspended, Lui continued to train with the Cowboys. Before this, he was seen as a potential future representative player. He was even part of the Queensland team's "Emerging Origin Squad" in 2011.
In February 2014, Lui was part of the Cowboys team that won the 2014 NRL Auckland Nines tournament. He signed a contract to stay with the club until the end of 2015. In 2015, Lui mostly played for the Townsville Blackhawks. Later that year, he signed a one-year deal with the Salford Red Devils in England. This reunited him with his former coach, Tim Sheens.
Playing in England: Salford and Leeds (2016-2021)
Rob Lui played 21 games for Salford in 2016, scoring 11 tries. In 2017, he signed a long-term contract to stay with Salford. He played 21 games for Salford in 2018 and was their top point scorer.
In 2019, Lui joined the Leeds Rhinos on loan from Salford. He later signed a two-year contract to join Leeds permanently from 2020. On 17 October 2020, Lui played in the 2020 Challenge Cup Final. His team, Leeds, won the cup by beating Salford 17–16 at Wembley Stadium.
In 2021, Lui played 11 games for Leeds. His last game was a semi-final loss against St Helens. He had announced his retirement earlier that year.
Return to Townsville (2021-Present)
In November 2021, it was reported that Rob Lui had rejoined the Townsville Blackhawks. This team is a feeder club for the North Queensland Cowboys. He played 12 games for Townsville in the 2022 Queensland Cup season. In December 2022, Lui signed to play for Centrals in the local Townsville rugby league competition.

Rob Lui's father, Phillip Lui, also played rugby league. He played for Queensland A in the late 1980s.
Rob Lui has a good friend and former teammate from the Cowboys, Ray Thompson. Ray Thompson is the godfather to Rob Lui's son.
