Website Robert Moses State Park

Robert Moses State Park - Thousand Islands is a large state park in New York. It covers about 2,322 acres (9.4 km2). You can find it on Barnhart Island in the Saint Lawrence River. It also includes land on the nearby mainland. The park is located near the town of Massena in St. Lawrence County. It's also very close to the border with Canada.

This park is named after Robert Moses. He was a very important person in New York. He helped create many state parks across New York. There are two state parks named after him. The other one is Robert Moses State Park - Long Island. That park is located far to the south on Fire Island.

Fun Things to Do at the Park

Robert Moses State Park offers many cool activities. You can relax on the beach or have a picnic. There are picnic tables and even covered areas called pavilions. Kids can enjoy the playground too. The park also has special recreation programs.

If you love nature, you can walk on the nature trail. There are also hiking trails through woods and wetlands. You can go fishing or launch your boat from the marina. The park has a campground with spots for tents and trailers. You can even rent cabins! In winter, you can go cross-country skiing or snowmobiling. There's also a place to buy food and snacks.

Exploring Barnhart Island

Part of the park is on Barnhart Island. To get there, you travel through a tunnel. This tunnel goes under the Eisenhower Locks. These locks are part of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. This is a big waterway for ships.

The Nature Center

The park has a nature center. It offers fun outdoor education programs. A group called "Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc." helps manage it. In 2015, the center was in a temporary spot. This was while a new building was being built. The new building was paid for by the New York Power Authority. It replaced the old nature center. The old one was sadly destroyed in a fire in 2010.

The 45th Parallel

Look for a sign near the park's entrance. It shows where the 45th parallel crosses through the park. The 45th parallel is an imaginary line around the Earth. It's exactly halfway between the Equator and the North Pole!
