Robert Muchamore's Books

The CHERUB Series

Robert Muchamore started writing the CHERUB books for his nephew. His nephew, Jared, lived in Australia and couldn't find books he liked. Robert wanted to write stories he would have enjoyed as a teenager. He felt he was too old for kids' books but too young for adult novels.

The CHERUB series is about a secret spy organization. It's called CHERUB (Charles Henderson's Espionage Research Unit B). This group is part of the British Secret Service. They recruit children who don't have parents. These kids are trained to be spies.

  • Why kids as spies? Targets often don't suspect children.
  • Main characters: The series follows James Adams and his younger sister, Lauren Adams.
  • Training: CHERUB agents start tough basic training at age ten. This 100-day course prepares them for dangerous missions.
  • Missions: After training, agents go on missions. They investigate everything from terrorists to gang leaders.
  • Retirement: Agents must retire from CHERUB when they turn seventeen.

Muchamore has written seventeen CHERUB novels. He also wrote a short story for World Book Day. Together, these books have sold over 15 million copies. The CHERUB series is sold in more than twenty countries. It has won many awards. The Recruit won eight literature awards. This included the National Book Award in 2008.

The Henderson's Boys Series

Muchamore also wrote a series called Henderson's Boys. These books tell the story of how CHERUB started. The first book, The Escape, came out in 2009. There are seven books in this series. The last one, Scorched Earth, was released in 2013.

  • Setting: These novels are set during World War II.
  • Main character: They follow Charles Henderson. He is a British secret agent. He creates the organization that later becomes CHERUB.
  • Children in the story: The books focus on four children: Marc Kilgour, Paul Clarke, Rosie Clarke, and PT Bivott.

The CHERUB: Aramov Series

This is the second set of CHERUB books. It's called Aramov because the main bad guys are the Aramov Clan.

  • First book: People's Republic was released in 2011.
  • Other books: Guardian Angel (2012), Black Friday (2013), and Lone Wolf (2014) followed.
  • Final book: The last book in this series, New Guard, came out in 2016.

The Rock War Series

In 2014, Muchamore announced a new series called Rock War. These books are not connected to CHERUB or Henderson's Boys. However, one character from his other books makes a small appearance.

  • Story: The series follows three characters: Jay, Summer, and Dylan. They enter a music competition.
  • First book: Rock War was published in 2014.
  • Novella: A short story called The Audition was released for World Book Day 2014.
  • Other books: Boot Camp (2015), Gone Wild (2016), and Crash Landing (2017) complete the series.

Other Novels

  • Home: This novel was about a civil war in an African country. Publishers thought it was too violent for children. So, it was never officially published. Muchamore released the full story online for free.
  • Little Criminals: He wrote this book between two CHERUB novels. He shared the first two chapters online. He wanted to see what fans thought. He hopes this book might still be published one day.
