Robert Laman Webber (born October 14, 1924 – died May 19, 1989) was an American actor. He was known for appearing in many movies and TV shows. One of his most famous roles was Juror No. 12 in the 1957 film 12 Angry Men.

Early Life

Robert Webber was born in Santa Ana, California. His father, also named Robert Webber, worked as a merchant seaman. Robert graduated from Oakland Technical High School.

During World War II, Robert Webber joined the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He served as a radio operator in places like Guam and Okinawa. He left the Marines in 1945 as a private first class. He received several awards for his service, including the Navy Combat Action Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.

Acting Career

Robert Webber had a long acting career that lasted 40 years. He was known as a "character actor," meaning he often played interesting supporting roles rather than the main hero.

One of his most famous movie roles was in 12 Angry Men (1957). In this movie, he played Juror No. 12, one of the twelve people deciding if someone is guilty. He also appeared in The Dirty Dozen, where he played a general. He was in Harper with Paul Newman and The Silencers, a spy movie. Other notable films include The Great White Hope (1970), Midway (1976), and Private Benjamin (1980). Many of these movies were directed by Blake Edwards.

On television, Webber appeared in many popular shows of his time. These included Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Mannix, Kojak, and Mission: Impossible. He also appeared in four episodes of Cannon and four episodes of The Rockford Files. Later in his career, he played the father of Cybill Shepherd's character in the popular series Moonlighting.

Later Life and Passing

Robert Webber passed away on May 19, 1989, in Malibu, California. He was 64 years old. He died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a serious illness that affects the nerves and muscles. It is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
