Robert Westerholt was born on January 2, 1975, in the Netherlands. He is a talented Dutch musician, best known as the guitarist and a co-founder of the popular band Within Temptation. Robert helps write the music for the band. His partner, Sharon den Adel, is the lead singer. Before becoming a full-time musician, Robert worked in human resources, which is about managing people in a company.

Early Music Career
Robert Westerholt was born in Waddinxveen, a town in the Netherlands. In 1992, he started a band called "The Circle." He formed it with Martijn Spierenburg, who later became the keyboard player for Within Temptation. Robert began writing his own songs for this new band.
The Circle finished their first demo, called 'Symphony No.1', in December 1992. The band had a full lineup, including Robert, Martijn, and Jeroen van Veen, who would also join Within Temptation later. After a while, Robert left The Circle. The band then changed its name to Voyage. Voyage released one album in 1995 called 'Embrace'. Sharon den Adel, Robert's future partner, sang on one of the songs on that album.
Starting Within Temptation
After leaving The Circle, Robert Westerholt started writing new music. He wanted to create a new band with his girlfriend, Sharon den Adel. Robert sent demo songs to Jeroen van Veen, his old bandmate from Voyage. Jeroen then left Voyage to join Robert's new project.
Their first drummer was Richard Willemse, but he left. Dennis Leeflang took his place and helped record their first demo. He also left soon after, and Ivar de Graaf became the drummer. Robert remembers that finding a steady drummer was a bit of a challenge for the band. By 1997, the band's lineup was complete. It included Sharon on vocals, Robert on guitars and some vocals, Robert's brother Martijn on keyboards, Jeroen on bass, Michiel Papenhove on guitar, and Ivar on drums.
In the same year, Within Temptation signed with DSFA Records. They then released their first album, called Enter.
Robert's Role Today
Since 2011, Robert Westerholt has mostly stopped touring with Within Temptation. He made this choice to spend more time taking care of his and Sharon's children. However, he is still a very important part of the band. He continues to write songs and help produce their music. Stefan Helleblad, who works behind the scenes with the band, often plays guitar for Robert during live shows.
Other Music Projects
In 1998, Robert had a small singing role in a rock opera called "Into the Electric Castle" by Ayreon. He sang as the character Death. Sharon den Adel also had a main role in this rock opera.
Robert's Family Life
Robert Westerholt and Sharon den Adel are partners and have three children together. Their first child, Eva Luna, was born on December 7, 2005. Their son, Robin Aiden, was born on June 1, 2009. Their youngest son, Logan Arwin, was born on March 31, 2011. Robert and Sharon officially married in 2018.
