About Roberto Cavalli
Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence, Italy. His grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was an artist. His artwork is shown in the famous Uffizi Gallery.
Roberto went to the local Art Institute. He focused on printing designs on textiles. While he was still a student, he made some flower prints on knitted fabrics. These designs caught the eye of big Italian clothing factories.
Early Career and Inventions
In the early 1970s, Roberto Cavalli invented a new way to print on leather. He also got a patent for this method. He started making clothes with patches of different materials. He showed these new ideas in Paris. Right away, he got orders from famous brands like Hermès and Pierre Cardin.
When he was 32, he showed his first collection of clothes. It was called "Roberto Cavalli" and was presented in Paris. He then brought his designs to fashion shows in Florence and Milan. He showed jeans made from printed denim, leather designs, and wild prints. In 1972, he opened his first store in Saint-Tropez.
Expanding the Brand
In 1994, Roberto Cavalli showed his first "sand-blasted" jeans in Milan. This was a new and popular style. By the end of that year, he had opened more stores. These included shops in Saint Barth, Venice, and Saint-Tropez.
Besides his main clothing line, Cavalli also designed other collections. These included RC Menswear for men and a younger line called Just Cavalli. Just Cavalli started in 2000. Today, it includes clothes for men and women, accessories, eyewear, watches, jewelry, perfumes, underwear, and beachwear. He also had a children's collection called Angels & Devils.
In 2002, Cavalli opened his first cafe-store in Florence. He decorated it with his special animal prints. Soon after, he opened another Just Cavalli cafe in Milan.
Personal Life
In 1980, Roberto Cavalli married Eva Düringer. She was a former Miss Austria and came in second place in the Miss Universe 1977 pageant. Roberto was a judge at that Miss Universe pageant.
Roberto Cavalli had six children. He had two children, Tommaso and Christiana, from his first marriage. He had three more children, Robert, Sara, and Daniele, from his marriage to Eva. Roberto and Eva divorced in 2010.
Later, Roberto Cavalli became partners with Sandra Nilsson. In 2023, when he was 82, he became a father for the sixth time. His youngest child was named Giorgio. This name honored his father, who passed away in 1944.
Roberto Cavalli passed away on April 12, 2024, at the age of 83.
