Playing Career: Roberto Sensini's Club Journey

Roberto Sensini started his professional football career in 1986 with Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. There, he won his first championship title. In 1989, he moved to Italy and joined Udinese.

Sensini's Time at Parma

After four seasons with Udinese, Sensini moved to Parma in 1993. He stayed there for six years. During this time, he sometimes played in midfield. With Parma, he won two UEFA Cups (a big European club competition). He also won two Italian Cups and the UEFA Super Cup. Parma also reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

Success with Lazio and Return to Parma

In the 1999–2000 season, Sensini had a short but very successful time with Lazio. In his first season, he won the scudetto (the Italian league championship). He also won another Italian Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Supercoppa Italiana.

After two years with Lazio, he returned to Parma for another year. He won another Coppa Italia in 2002. After this, he went back to his first Italian club, Udinese, in 2002.

Final Years at Udinese

In 2005, Sensini was a key player in Udinese's surprising success. They qualified for the UEFA Champions League, which is the biggest club competition in Europe. He was one of the oldest players in the 2005–06 Serie A league. Italian sports journalists often called him nonno, which means "grandfather," because of his experience. He retired from playing football at the end of that season.

International Career: Representing Argentina

Roberto Sensini, also known as "Boquita," played his first game for the national team in 1987. His last match for Argentina was in 2000.

World Cup Appearances

He played in three FIFA World Cup tournaments: 1990, 1994, and 1998. In the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final, Argentina played against West Germany. Sensini was involved in a moment where a penalty kick was given to West Germany, which led to their winning goal. He also helped his country finish third in the 1989 Copa América tournament.

Olympic Silver Medal

In 1996, Sensini was part of the Argentina under-23 squad. They won the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He was one of the three older players allowed on the team.

Playing Style: What Made Sensini Great

Sensini was known as a very consistent, smart, and important player. He was also very flexible in terms of tactics. This meant he could play in many different positions on the field. Throughout his career, he played as a full-back (on the sides of the defense), an attacking wing-back, a centre-back (in the middle of the defense), or even as a central or defensive midfielder.

He was excellent at winning the ball from opponents. He was also good at marking players and tackling. His playing style was tough, aggressive, and physical. Even though he was mainly a defender, he also had good technique. He could make runs forward and help his team score goals sometimes. Many people consider him one of the best players of the 1990s and early 2000s.
