Robin Montgomery (born September 5, 2004) is a talented American professional tennis player. She has achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 95. She also reached No. 119 in doubles.
Robin made a big splash in junior tennis. She won both the girls' singles and girls' doubles titles at the 2021 US Open. She has also won several titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour, which is a stepping stone for professional players.
Early Life and Training
Robin Montgomery was born in Washington, D.C. She started playing tennis when she was just four years old. Today, she trains at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland. This center helps young tennis players develop their skills.
Robin's Tennis Journey
Starting Strong in Junior Tennis (2019)
In August 2019, Robin played in the US Open for junior girls. She made it to the third round, showing her potential. Later that year, she helped the US team win the Junior Fed Cup. She and her partner, Connie Ma, won their doubles match against the Czech Republic, securing the victory for their country. In December, Robin won the "18 and under" title at the 2019 Orange Bowl, a very important junior tennis tournament.
Turning Professional and First Big Matches (2020)
Robin started 2020 by reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open junior girls' tournament. In March, she won her first professional tournament on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour. This was a $25,000 event in Las Vegas. By August 2020, she was ranked No. 5 in the world for junior players.
After a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Robin got a special invitation to play in the qualifying rounds of the Western & Southern Open. Soon after, she received another special invitation to play in the main part of the 2020 US Open. This was her first time playing in a Grand Slam tournament, which are the biggest events in tennis.
Winning Big at the US Open Juniors (2021)
In 2021, Robin made her debut in a WTA 1000 event, which is a very high level of professional tennis. She played in the main draw of the Miami Open as a wildcard player.
Her biggest achievement that year came at the US Open. Robin won the girls' singles title by defeating Kristina Dmitruk. Just a few hours later, she won her first major doubles title with her partner, Ashlyn Krueger. They beat another American team in a close match. Robin was the first girl to win both the singles and doubles titles at the US Open since 2004. She was also the first American girl to win the singles title since 2017.
Climbing the Ranks (2023–2025)
Robin continued to improve in the following years. In 2023, she got a wildcard to play in the main draw of the Miami Open. There, she won her first match at a WTA 1000-level event, defeating Ana Bogdan.
In 2024, Robin played in several major tournaments. She reached the third round of the Madrid Open, a big clay-court tournament. She also made it to her first quarterfinal at a tour-level event at the Rosmalen Open. Later that year, she qualified for the main draw of Wimbledon.
Robin also reached her first WTA 500 quarterfinal at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C. She defeated Shelby Rogers and advanced further in the tournament.
In 2025, Robin continued her progress. After winning her first-round match at the 2025 Charleston Open, she officially entered the top 100 tennis players in the world on April 7, 2025. This was a major milestone in her professional career.
