Rock Creek is a stream in Illinois, USA. It is about 25 mi (40 km) long. This creek flows into the Kankakee River. You can find where it joins the river inside Kankakee River State Park. This park is located northwest of Kankakee, Illinois.
Rock Creek starts on high ground. Then, it flows downhill into the Kankakee River Valley. As it flows, the water has cut through the rock. This has created a deep, narrow valley called a gorge. Most of this gorge is within the state park. There is a special path in the park that follows the creek.
About 1.5 miles (2.4 km) upstream from the main park entrance, you can find the Rock Creek waterfall. This waterfall is on land owned by Camp Shaw-was-nas-see. This is a private camp for young people. In the area from the park entrance to the falls, the cliffs can be as tall as 80 feet (24 m).
Fishing Fun in Rock Creek
Rock Creek is a very popular spot for fishing. Many people from northern and central Illinois come here. They especially like to catch smallmouth bass.
The Illinois DNR also adds trout to the creek. They do this twice a year. This gives people a chance to try different types of fishing. You can use a spinning rod or try fly fishing for trout.
