Rockfield (Scottish Gaelic: Creag Tarail Bhig) is a small, quiet village in Scotland. It's located on the Tarbat Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. The village is known for its stone jetty, a small pier where boats can dock. People in Rockfield traditionally lived by fishing and farming. The village faces east and sits below an old raised beach.
Explore Rockfield's Coast
Rockfield is a fantastic spot to begin or end an exciting walk along the coast. You can choose to walk south towards the village of Balintore. Or, you can head north to Tarbat Ness, go around the headland, and return to Portmahomack.
Walk to Balintore
This walk takes you south from Rockfield. The beautiful Moray Firth will be on your left side. Keep an eye out for amazing wildlife like dolphins and even whales! This path is about 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) long. It has only small changes in how high or low the ground is.
Walk to Tarbat Ness and Portmahomack
This longer walk can be split into two parts. The first part goes north from Rockfield to Tarbat Ness. The Moray Firth will be on your right during this section. At Tarbat Ness, you can take a break to see the Tarbat Lighthouse. You might also explore the tide pools, which are small pools of water left behind by the tide. There's a road that leads to the lighthouse and an old salmon fishing station.
The second part of the walk is on the other side of the Tarbat peninsula. You will walk south, with a more sheltered part of the sea on your right. This part of the walk ends in the charming village of Portmahomack.
