Rocky Nook is a small area, or neighborhood, located in Kingston, Massachusetts. It sits on a small piece of land, like a finger pointing into the water, called a peninsula. This peninsula is on Kingston Bay, where the Jones River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It is also close to Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Discovering Rocky Nook's Past
Rocky Nook has a long history. An early American colonist named John Howland bought land here. He and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Rocky Nook between 1638 and 1640. You can still see parts of a stone wall that marked his property. There are also three old cellar holes from buildings that once stood there.
For many years, not many people lived in Rocky Nook. This changed in 1904. Investors from Brockton, Massachusetts bought land and created a summer vacation spot. They called it the Rocky Nook Park summer resort.

The resort was about 30 acres in size. Families could rent small houses, called cottages, for their summer vacations. Over time, many of these summer homes became places where people lived all year round.
