Rocky Plain is a quiet, rural area located in the Mid North region of South Australia. It's known as a 'rural locality,' which means it's a countryside area rather than a busy town. This place officially got its boundaries set in August 2000. However, people had been using the name 'Rocky Plain' for this area for a very long time before that. It is part of the Regional Council of Goyder.

History of Rocky Plain

Rocky Plain has always been a small district. It is mostly known for its past school. People often describe it as "only a district name." This means it's more of a general area than a place with a main center.

The Old School

For many years, the most important building in Rocky Plain was its school. The Rocky Plain School first opened its doors in 1923. It helped educate children living in this rural area.

The school was busiest in 1934, when 23 students attended. This was the highest number of students it ever had. However, over time, fewer and fewer children lived in the area.

Because of the declining student numbers, the school eventually closed. It shut down on March 13, 1943. The school building was later taken down. Today, there is no longer a school building to mark the area.
