Rodney County was a local government area in the North Island of New Zealand. It was like a special region that managed its own local affairs. Rodney County started in November 1876 when the older "provinces" system was stopped. It continued to operate until 1989. In that year, there were big changes to local governments across New Zealand. Rodney County then joined with Helensville Borough to form the new Rodney District. Today, the area that was once Rodney County is part of the larger Auckland Council.
Leaders of Rodney County: The Chairmen
The Rodney County Council was the group of people who ran the county. They were led by a person called the "chairman." Think of the chairman as being similar to a mayor for the whole county. This person was in charge of making sure the county's services, like roads and local rules, were managed well.
