About Roger Hollett

Early Life and Training

Roger Hollett was born and grew up in Fairview, Nova Scotia, Canada. His father, Ralph Hollett, was a former champion in both boxing and kickboxing. Roger learned these fighting styles from his dad as he was growing up.

Roger trains at the Titans Gym in Halifax. He has a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is a martial art focused on grappling and ground fighting. His teachers were Kevin Taylor and Peter Martell, who are both high-level black belts. Roger also trains with and is managed by Robert Walker, a champion Muay Thai instructor.

Roger's Fighting Journey

Roger Hollett had an exciting career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He fought in several big leagues, including the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Starting Out

Roger had a great start to his career, winning seven fights in a row. However, he faced a setback in October 2007 when he lost a fight to Lew Polley. During this match, Roger got a serious knee injury, which kept him from fighting for a while.

He made a strong return in September 2008, winning his comeback fight against Marcus Hicks. After this, Roger fought for the vacant Maximum Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight title in December 2008. He lost this championship fight to Emanuel Newton by a decision from the judges.

Roger then lost another fight to UFC veteran David Heath in February 2009. But he quickly bounced back, winning his next two fights by submission. One of these wins was against Chris Peak, and the other was against Aron Lofton.

In October 2010, Roger returned to the cage after another injury. He won his fight against Mychal Clark by a unanimous decision. In April 2011, he was scheduled to fight Steve Bossé, but Bossé got injured. Martin Desilets stepped in, and Roger won that fight by TKO (Technical Knockout).

Fighting in Bellator

Roger later joined Bellator Fighting Championships. He won his first fight there against John Hawk in November 2011. This win earned him a spot in a tournament for light heavyweights. However, due to another injury, Roger could not compete in the tournament and left Bellator.

Joining the UFC

On August 3, 2012, Roger Hollett signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is one of the biggest MMA organizations in the world.

He was set to make his UFC debut against Matt Hamill in September 2012. There were some changes to the fight, but Roger eventually did fight Hamill at UFC 152. Roger lost this fight by a unanimous decision from the judges.

Roger was scheduled for another UFC fight in January 2013, but he had to pull out due to a torn bicep muscle. His second UFC fight happened in May 2013 against Fábio Maldonado. Roger lost this fight by unanimous decision as well. After this match, he was released from the UFC.
