Roger Kolo (born 3 September 1943) is a politician from Madagascar. He served as the Prime Minister of Madagascar from April 2014 to January 2015. A prime minister is like the head of the government, working with the president to lead the country.

Early Life and Education

Roger Kolo was born in Belon'i Tsiribihina, a town on the southwest coast of Madagascar. His father worked at a post office, which handles mail, and was also a vice-mayor. A vice-mayor helps lead a town or city.

Kolo studied at the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar from 1970 to 1977. There, he earned a degree in medicine, which means he became a doctor.

Becoming a Specialist

After his medical studies, Roger Kolo went to France. He specialized in surgery, which is a type of medicine where doctors perform operations. Later, he studied more in Geneva, Switzerland. He became a radiologist, a doctor who uses X-rays and other imaging to see inside the body.

From 1997 to 2003, he opened three private centers for radiology. These were places where people could go to get medical scans.

Political Career

In 2013, Roger Kolo returned to Madagascar. He wanted to run in the country's presidential election. However, his application was not accepted. This was because he did not meet the rule about living in Madagascar for a certain amount of time.

Working with the President

Even though he couldn't run for president, Roger Kolo worked closely with Hery Rajaonarimampianina. Rajaonarimampianina was running for president with his political group, "Hery Vaovao hoan'i Madagasikara." This name means "New Forces for Madagascar."

After Hery Rajaonarimampianina became president in January 2014, he chose Roger Kolo to be the prime minister. This happened in April 2014. Kolo was chosen because many members of the parliament supported him. The parliament is like a big meeting group that makes laws for the country.
