Roger Stone (born August 27, 1952) is an American political expert. He helps politicians with their campaigns and works to influence government decisions. He is well-known for advising Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Early Life and School Days

Roger Stone was born on August 27, 1952, in Norwalk, Connecticut. He grew up in a community called Vista, in Lewisboro, New York. His family was middle-class and Catholic. His mother was active in the school PTA and was a Cub Scout leader. His father worked as a well driller and was a fire chief. Stone's family background includes Hungarian and Italian roots.

In 1972, while studying at George Washington University, Stone invited a political figure named Jeb Stuart Magruder to speak. After the talk, Stone asked Magruder for a job with Richard Nixon's campaign. He then left college to work for the campaign.

Roger Stone's Career in Politics

Stone started his political work with the Nixon campaign in 1972. After Nixon won the election, Stone worked for the government. Later, he worked for another politician, Bob Dole, but then left that job.

In 1975, Stone helped start a group called the National Conservative Political Action Committee. This group was important because it found new ways to advertise for political campaigns.

He also worked on Ronald Reagan's campaign for president in 1976. In 1977, when he was 24, Stone became the president of the Young Republicans. His friend Paul Manafort helped him with this campaign.

Stone first met Donald Trump in 1979. At that time, Stone was helping to raise money for Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign. Stone later said that he and Trump became friends right away.

Stone also worked as a main advisor for Thomas Kean's campaigns for Governor of New Jersey in 1981 and 1985. In the late 1980s, he advised Jack Kemp's presidential campaign. In 1995, he led Senator Arlen Specter's campaign for president, but Specter left the race early.

Stone was an advisor for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. He left the campaign in August 2015, but he continued to support Trump.

In 2017, a Netflix movie called Get Me Roger Stone was made about his life and his role in Trump's 2016 campaign.

Roger Stone's Unique Style

Roger Stone is known for his colorful and noticeable personal style. People have called him a "lord of mischief" and a "black prince" of Republican politics. He often shares his own sayings, which he calls "Stone's Rules." These are short, strong statements about politics or life. One of his rules is: "Politics with me isn't theater. It's performance art, sometimes for its own sake."

Stone has a few interesting habits. He does not wear socks, a detail that even Nancy Reagan noticed. He is also known for being a very sharp dresser. He says he has not bought clothes off the rack since he was 17. He has even taught reporters how to tie their neckties perfectly. A journalist named Victor Gold said Stone is one of the "smartest dressers" in Washington. Stone has a favorite tailor and owns many suits and silver-colored neckties. He dislikes single-vent jackets and has written about his love for certain fabrics like seersucker and velvet.

In 1999, Stone said his facial appearance came from using Chinese herbs, breathing exercises, tai chi, and acupuncture. He wears a diamond pinky ring shaped like a horseshoe. In 2007, he got a tattoo of Richard Nixon's face on his back.

Books and Other Writings

Since 2010, Stone has written for the conservative website The Daily Caller, sometimes as a "male fashion editor." He also writes for his own fashion blog, Stone on Style.
