A Look Back: History of the Stadium
Harrow Borough F.C. moved into the stadium in 1934. This was just one year after the club was first formed. Before that, they played their first season on a field on Northolt Road.
Building the Champniss Stand
In 1938, a local building called a pavilion was taken apart. It was then rebuilt at the Earlsmead site. A local landowner, Mr. G. Champniss, gave this pavilion to the club. He later became the club president. This new stand was named the Champniss Stand in his honor. It had room for 250 people to sit and 100 people to stand.
During the Second World War, the pavilion was made completely dark inside. This meant the club could keep playing games safely. Simple lamps under biscuit tins helped guide people around.
Growing and Changing
More covered areas were added in 1947-48. These were made from old materials like Anderson shelter sheeting. You can still see parts of this covered standing area today. It is in the south-east corner of the ground.
Earlsmead originally had two football pitches. However, the second pitch was sold to the local council in the early 1970s. A primary school, Earlsmead Primary School, was built there. The money from this sale helped Harrow Borough F.C. build a new clubhouse. They also installed new floodlights and concrete standing areas. While these big changes were happening, the team played their games at other stadiums during the 1973–74 season.
In 1995, the old Champniss Stand was taken down after 57 years. A new, modern stand was built to meet new safety rules. This new stand has 350 seats. It was paid for by donations from people, club fundraising, and the Football Foundation.
The stadium was renamed the ‘Rogers Family Stadium’ in 2017. This was to celebrate Peter Rogers, who had been the club's chairman for 50 years.
Where is it? Location
The Rogers Family Stadium is on land that was once open to everyone. This area is on the far west side of Roxeth. It was once known as Dabbs Field.
The area around the stadium was developed in the early 1930s. This was part of the Metro-land building projects. A nearby group of houses, the Earlsmead Housing Estate, likely gave the stadium its original name.
Many streets around the stadium are named after famous castles in the British Isles. These include Windsor, Warwick, Kenilworth, Walton, Arundel, Corfe, Balmoral, Ludlow, and Tregenna.
How to Get There: Access
The Rogers Family Stadium is easy to reach. It is within a 30-minute walk of three London Underground stations. These are South Harrow (Piccadilly Line), Northolt (Central Line), and Rayners Lane (Metropolitan and Piccadilly Lines).
