Sir Rowland Lytton (born September 28, 1561 – died June 23, 1615) was an important English lawyer and politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of today's Parliament, for many years between 1586 and 1611.

Life of a Politician

Rowland Lytton was the only son of Rowland Lytton from Knebworth, a place in Hertfordshire, England. His mother was Anne Carleton.

He started studying at Caius College, Cambridge when he was 14 years old in 1576. Later, in 1579, he joined Gray's Inn, which is a place where people train to become lawyers. When his father passed away in 1582, Rowland took over the family's responsibilities.

Lytton became a Member of Parliament for Truro, a town in Cornwall, from 1586 to 1587. A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone chosen to represent people in the government.

He also served as a Justice of the Peace for Hertfordshire starting in 1587 until he died. A Justice of the Peace helps keep law and order in a local area. From 1594 to 1595, he was the Sheriff of Hertfordshire. The Sheriff was a very important official who helped the King or Queen manage the county.

Lytton was an MP for Hertfordshire again from 1597 to 1598. In 1603, he was made a knight, which is a special honor given by the King or Queen. He served as an MP for Hertfordshire one more time from 1604 to 1611. From 1605 until his death, he was also a Deputy Lieutenant for Essex, helping to organize the local military.

Sir Rowland Lytton passed away in 1615 when he was 53 years old. He was buried in his family's chapel at Knebworth church.
