As of the census of 2000, there were 907 people, 385 households, and 259 families residing in the city. The population density was 5,126.8 people per square mile (1,945.5/km²). There were 400 housing units at an average density of 2,261.0 per square mile (858.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 90.74% White, 6.50% African American, 0.33% Native American, 1.54% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population.
There were 385 households out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.90.
