Meet Romulus, the Tallest Donkey!
Romulus was born in 2004, which makes him 21 years old. He stands incredibly tall, measuring 17 hands (68 inches, 173 cm) from his hooves to his shoulders. This is about 5 feet and 8 inches! Romulus is also quite heavy, weighing around 1,300 pounds (590 kg). That's like a small car!
What Makes Romulus So Big?
Romulus and his brother Remus are both American Mammoth Jackstock donkeys. This is the largest type of donkey breed in the world. These huge donkeys were first raised to help create large mules. Mules are animals that are a mix of a donkey and a horse. American Mammoths were perfect for this job because of their impressive size.
