Ron Kenoly (born December 6, 1944 – died February 3, 2026) was an American Christian music artist. He was a well-known worship leader, singer, and songwriter. He helped many people connect through music.
Ron Kenoly earned several college degrees. These included a music degree and advanced degrees in religious studies. His journey in music began after serving in the United States Air Force. He first sang with a group called The Mellow Fellows. Later, family matters led him to leave the group.
His big break in music came in 1992. His album Lift Him Up sold very quickly. Another album, Welcome Home, was also highly praised. It became a top Christian music album on the Billboard charts. This album also won a special award called a GMA Dove Award in 1997. Ron Kenoly recorded his music with Integrity Music.
Early Life and Music Journey
Ron Kenoly was born and grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas. His mother, Edith Kenoly, had a special prayer for him before he was born. She wished for him to praise God. From a young age, Ron loved music. He was inspired by famous performers like Sammy Davis Jr. and Nat King Cole. Seeing them on stage made him want to pursue music too.
After high school, Ron moved to Hollywood, Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968. While in the Air Force, he sang in a band called The Mellow Fellows. They played popular songs and toured military bases. After his service, Ron went back to Los Angeles. He continued his music career there. He recorded songs for different labels, including Audio Arts and A&M Records. For a time, he used the stage name Ron Keith.
Ron Kenoly also sang with Candy Rae. Their song "Lovely Weekend" was very popular, selling many copies. Later, Ron decided to focus on Christian music. He worked hard to release a gospel album. In 1983, he released his first Christian album, You Ought to Listen to This. He also attended Marin Bible College. There, he met other musicians who had also chosen to focus on Christian music. Ron soon became a worship leader for different pastors. He met Pastor Dick Bernal, who founded the Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California.
In 1985, Ron Kenoly became a full-time minister. He led worship services at Jubilee Christian Center. He became a music pastor in 1987. Later, he was named the Ambassador of Music for the center. Ron also helped other churches improve their music programs. He earned a special degree in Sacred Music in 1996. In 1999, he moved to central Florida. He continued to travel, sing, teach, and record music throughout his life. He also wrote books, including one with Pastor Dick Bernal. Ron Kenoly was highly respected, especially in Africa.
Family Life and Legacy
Ron Kenoly met his first wife, Tavita, while serving in the Air Force. They were married for 42 years and had three sons: Samuel, Ronald, and Tony. A famous cousin of Ron Kenoly is the actor Don Cheadle. Ron later married Diana on November 24, 2014. Ron Kenoly passed away on February 3, 2026, when he was 81 years old.
