Ron Siegel (born 1966) is a famous American chef. He used to work in San Francisco. He is best known for winning a cooking show called Iron Chef in 1998. He was the first American to win on that show! Ron Siegel's cooking style mixes fancy French food with a little bit of Japanese flavor.

Ron Siegel's Journey to Becoming a Chef
Ron Siegel was born in Manhattan, New York, on August 12, 1966. When he was 7, his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. He went to Palo Alto High School.
Ron started working in kitchens when he was just 16 years old. His first job was as a butcher in a grocery store in Palo Alto, California. This was his first step into the world of cooking.
Learning to Cook
Ron Siegel decided to study cooking professionally. He went to the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. After finishing school, in 1991, he started working at Aqua Restaurant. This was a seafood restaurant in San Francisco. His first teacher in the kitchen was Chef George Morrone at Aqua.
In 1993, Ron moved to New York to work at a restaurant called Daniel. A year later, he came back to California. He worked at The French Laundry in Yountville, California. Here, he was a sous-chef, which is like a second-in-command to the head chef, Thomas Keller.
Becoming a Head Chef
In 1996, Ron Siegel became the head chef at Charles Nob Hill in San Francisco. This restaurant was known for mixing French and California cooking styles. In 1999, Food & Wine Magazine named him one of the "10 Best New Chefs in America."
Later, Ron became the executive chef at Masa's in San Francisco. Then, in 2004, he took over the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. He named his restaurant there "Parallel 37." This name was inspired by the line of latitude near San Francisco. At Parallel 37, he focused on French food with Japanese influences. In 2012, he became the executive chef at Michael Mina.
More recently, Ron Siegel has continued to create amazing food. In 2016, he was the executive chef at Rancho Nicasio. In 2017, he opened his own restaurant called Madcap in San Anselmo. In 2023, Madcap received a Michelin Star. This is a very special award for restaurants. Madcap was the only restaurant in Marin, California to earn a Star that year!
Ron Siegel on Iron Chef
In 1998, Ron Siegel went to Japan for a big challenge. He appeared on the very popular TV show Iron Chef. He was the second American-born chef to compete on the show. The mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown, even helped him get on the show!
The Lobster Battle
On Iron Chef, Ron Siegel faced a famous French chef named Hiroyuki Sakai. The secret ingredient for their cooking battle was lobster. Ron had to create several dishes using lobster. He made five different dishes:
- Egg Royale
- Lobster Cream Soup with scallops and truffles
- California Salad with lobster, basil oil, tomato, and avocado
- Lobster ravioli with sweet corn sauce
- Lobster and foie gras in fig sauce
In the end, Ron Siegel won the competition! He beat Chef Sakai with a score of 4–0. This made him the first American to win in the famous Kitchen Stadium.
