Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ronald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny (born August 1, 1910 – died November 11, 1931) was a talented cricketer from Scotland, born in England. He was known by his second name, Ronald.

Early Life and Education

Ronald Primrose was born in London. He was known as Lord Dalmeny because he was the son of Harry Primrose, 6th Earl of Rosebery. Being an "heir apparent" meant he was next in line to inherit his father's title.

He went to two very famous schools: Eton and New College, Oxford, which is part of Oxford University. While at Eton, he played in a very important cricket game called the Eton v Harrow match in 1928. This game is played at Lord's, a famous cricket ground in London.

Cricket Career

Like his father, Ronald played cricket for Middlesex. He also played one match for the Oxford University team.

He played in three "first-class" cricket matches between 1929 and 1931. In these games, he was a right-handed batsman. He was also a right-arm fast-medium bowler. This means he could both hit the ball well and bowl it quickly.

A Life Cut Short

Sadly, Ronald Primrose died young. He passed away in Oxford in 1931 when he was only 21 years old. His death was caused by blood poisoning, which is a serious infection in the body. He died before his father, which meant he never became the Earl of Rosebery.
