Ronit Matalon (Hebrew: רונית מטלון; May 25, 1959 – December 28, 2017) was a famous Israeli writer. She wrote many books, including novels for adults and a special book for children.

About Ronit Matalon's Life

Ronit Matalon was born in Ganei Tikva, Israel. Her parents came to Israel from Egypt. She studied literature and philosophy at Tel Aviv University.

Her Work as a Journalist

Ronit also worked as a journalist for the Haaretz newspaper. From 1987 to 1993, she reported on events in Gaza and the West Bank. This meant she wrote news stories about what was happening in those areas.

Teaching and Activism

Later, Ronit lived in Haifa and taught literature at the University of Haifa. She also taught at the Camera Obscura school for the Arts in Tel Aviv.

Ronit was also a strong supporter of social justice. She took part in peaceful protests to protect people's civil rights in Israel. She believed everyone should be treated fairly. She also helped guide art and culture programs for the Ministry of Education.

Awards and Special Recognition

Ronit Matalon received many important awards for her writing and her work for society.

  • 1994 – She won the Prime Minister's Prize for Hebrew Literary Works. This is a big award for writers in Israel.
