Fremont Township has a cool piece of history: the Fowler Schoolhouse. This building was constructed in 1882. It was the very first school building made of wood for School District No. 1.

The school closed its doors in 1943. Later, it was moved from its original spot to a rural area on Murphy Farm. This farm is part of the Hartley Outdoor Education Center, which is a public education resource. The plan is to restore the old schoolhouse so it can be preserved and perhaps used for educational purposes again.
