Roque Cinchado is a famous rock formation on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. It's a well-known symbol of the island. This amazing rock is found inside the Teide National Park, which is a special place recognized as a World Heritage Site. It's located near the Teide volcano, right in the middle of Tenerife. Roque Cinchado is about 1,700 meters below the volcano's peak. It's part of a group of rocks called "Roques García," which are what's left of the island's old highest point.

What is Roque Cinchado?

Roque Cinchado is a tall rock pillar, standing about 27 meters (almost 90 feet) high. It's mostly made of layers of rock that formed from volcanic ash and other materials. The top parts of the rock have been strengthened by two layers of hardened lava, called sills. These lava layers pushed into the softer rock, making the top of the pillar much harder to wear away by wind and rain. This is why it stands so tall!

A Famous Landmark

Roque Cinchado is so famous that it even appeared on old Spanish money! It was shown on the one thousand Spanish peseta banknotes, with the mighty Teide volcano in the background. This shows how important and recognized this unique rock formation is to the people of Tenerife and Spain.
