Rosa de Castilla started her movie career in 1952. Her first film was Los tres alegres compadres. In this movie, she acted alongside big stars like Jorge Negrete and Pedro Armendáriz.

She also starred in a series of three western movies. These films were El lobo solitario, La justicia del lobo, and Vuelve el lobo. All three movies came out in 1952.

In 1954, she was nominated for an Ariel Award. This award is like the "Oscars" of Mexico. She was recognized for her role in the film Tal para cual.

Rosa de Castilla was also a lead actress in two movies made in Eastmancolor. This was a new way to film in color back then. Her first color film was Tierra de hombres (1956). She also starred in the musical comedy ¡Aquí están los aguilares! (1957). Other important movies from the late 1950s include Yo... el aventurero and Tan bueno el giro como el colorado. She played a ranchera singer in the movie Dos corazones y un cielo (1959).

In the 1960s, she mostly appeared in westerns and comedies. One of these was Héroe a la fuerza (1964). By the early 1970s, her acting career slowed down. However, she made a few comebacks in the late 1990s.

Singing Performances

Rosa de Castilla often sang ranchera songs in her movies. Ranchera is a popular style of Mexican music.

In 1956, Capitol Records released her album called The Sounds of Old Mexico. Other famous singers like Antonio Aguilar were also on this album. Later, in 1967, she signed with RCA Víctor. Her music even started to become popular in Australia that same year.
