Rosanna Lisa Arquette (born August 10, 1959) is an American actress. She has starred in many films and TV shows. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in the TV film The Executioner's Song (1982). She also won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in the movie Desperately Seeking Susan (1985).

Some of her other well-known films include After Hours (1985), The Big Blue (1988), Pulp Fiction (1994), and Crash (1996). Rosanna Arquette has also directed a documentary film called Searching for Debra Winger (2002). She also acted in the TV show What About Brian? from 2006 to 2007.

Early Life and Family

Rosanna Arquette was born in New York City on August 10, 1959. Her mother, Brenda Olivia "Mardi" Nowak, was an actress and poet. Her father, Lewis Arquette, was a film actor and writer. Her grandfather was the famous comedian Cliff Arquette.

Rosanna comes from a family of actors. Her siblings, Richmond, Patricia, Alexis, and David, all became actors too.

Acting Career Highlights

Rosanna Arquette started acting in television and films in 1977. One of her first notable roles was in the movie S.O.B. (1981). She received an Emmy Award nomination for her role in the TV film The Executioner's Song (1982).

Her first main role was in John Sayles's film, Baby It's You (1983). She also starred with pop singer Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). For this movie, Rosanna won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. People often asked her if the song "Rosanna" was about her. She would joke about it, saying she brought the band juice and beer.

After some more films, she worked in Europe, starring in Luc Besson's The Big Blue (1988). Director Martin Scorsese also offered her a part in his film New York Stories (1989).

Other important movies she appeared in include Pulp Fiction (1994) and the David Cronenberg film Crash (1996). She played Angelina Jolie's mother in Hell's Kitchen.

Rosanna Arquette has also directed films. These include the documentaries Searching for Debra Winger (2002) and All We Are Saying (2005). She also produced these projects. On TV, she appeared in What About Brian and The L Word. She also guest-starred in Malcolm in the Middle.

In 2011, she starred in the French thriller The Divide. She also had a role in the 2012 comedy Peace, Love & Misunderstanding with Jane Fonda.

Personal Life

The famous song "Rosanna" by the band Toto was written by David Paich. He said the song was inspired by many girls he knew. However, the band members often joked that it was about Rosanna Arquette. She was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time.

Rosanna Arquette was also in a relationship with musician Peter Gabriel for several years. She has mentioned that his 1986 song "In Your Eyes" was inspired by her.

Rosanna has one daughter. She has said that she is mostly a vegetarian.

Helping Others (Philanthropy)

In 2010, Rosanna Arquette became a Goodwill Ambassador for The Womanity Foundation. This foundation works to empower women and girls around the world.
