Rosanna Rolle Carter (born September 20, 1918 – died December 30, 2016) was an actress from the Bahamas and the United States. She was born in Nassau, Bahamas. Rosanna was one of 18 children. Her sisters, Esther Rolle and Estelle Evans, were also famous actresses.
During the Harlem Renaissance, Rosanna performed at the New Lafayette Theater. She was part of a group called the Lafayette Players. She also acted in the 1984 movie The Brother from Another Planet. This film was a science fiction story about people moving to a new country.

Rosanna Carter's Acting Career
In the 1970s, Rosanna Carter was a member of the Negro Ensemble Company. This was a special theater group. She performed in several plays on Broadway, which is a famous theater district in New York City. These plays included My Sister, My Sister (1973), Inacent Black (1980), and The American Clock (1980).

Rosanna Carter also starred in many movies. Some of her films were Night of the Juggler (1980) and The Brother from Another Planet (1984).
She appeared as a guest star on many popular television shows. In 1974, she was on her sister Esther Rolle's show, Good Times. Rosanna played a character named Cora. Later, in 1985, she was Mrs. McNeill on Tales from the Darkside. In 1992, she played Rosanna on The Cosby Show. She also appeared on I'll Fly Away in 1993. Her last TV role was in 1997 on Law & Order, where she played Mrs. Hemmerick. She had appeared on Law & Order two times before that.

In 1974, Rosanna Carter was in a car accident. A police car hit her car from behind. She was injured in the accident. Seven years later, a jury decided she should receive money for her injuries and lost earnings.

Rosanna Carter won an AUDELCO award in 1977. This award was for her role as a supporting actress in the play Unfinished Women. She was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 1993. This was for her guest role in the TV series I'll Fly Away. However, she did not win the Emmy that year.
