Roscommon is a small village located in the state of Michigan, in the United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, for Roscommon County. In 2020, about 981 people lived there.

History of Roscommon
The area where Roscommon is located was first settled around 1845. A person named George Robinson from Detroit was one of the first settlers. The community was named after Roscommon County. The county itself got its name from County Roscommon in Ireland.
The Roscommon post office opened on January 9, 1873. Alfred Bennett was the first postmaster. In 1875, Roscommon became the official county seat. It was then officially recognized as a village in 1882.
Since 1979, Roscommon has hosted the annual Michigan's Firemen's Memorial Festival. This event honors firefighters who have died while protecting their communities.
Geography and Nature
Roscommon is a small village. It covers about 1.66 square miles (4.30 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
Nearby Parks and Rivers
Roscommon is close to several state parks. These include South Higgins Lake State Park, North Higgins Lake State Park, and Hartwick Pines State Park.
East of Roscommon, there's a special area called the Roscommon Red Pines. It's part of the Au Sable State Forest. This area has very old red pine trees.
The South Branch of the Au Sable River flows right through the village. This river is a popular spot for fun activities like kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

Roscommon village is located within Higgins Township. The village has its own post office with the ZIP Code 48653. This ZIP Code also covers other nearby townships.
Main Roads
- I-75 is a major highway. It passes about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the village. You can reach it from exit 239.
- BL 75 runs along with M-18 from exit 239.
- M-18, also known as Lake Street, goes right through the center of Roscommon.

Roscommon has a climate known as a warm-summer humid continental climate. This means it has warm summers and cold, snowy winters.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Roscommon was 103°F (39°C) on June 19, 1995. The coldest temperature was -34°F (-37°C) on February 17, 1979.

Students in Roscommon attend schools run by Roscommon Area Public Schools. The main school campus is located just west of the village.
