History of Rose Hill
The town of Rose Hill got its name in a very pretty way. A post office was opened here in 1872. The area was full of wild roses growing everywhere. Because of these beautiful flowers, the town was named Rose Hill.
Where is Rose Hill?
Rose Hill is found in the southwestern part of Duplin County. A main road, U.S. Route 117, goes right through the middle of town. If you drive north on this road, you'll reach Warsaw in about 12 miles. Going south for about 7 miles will take you to Wallace.
There's also a big highway, Interstate 40, just east of Rose Hill. You can get on it from exit 380. This highway can take you south about 49 miles to Wilmington. Or, if you go north, you'll reach Raleigh in about 84 miles.
The United States Census Bureau says that Rose Hill covers an area of about 3.7 square kilometers. All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the town limits.
